In Asteroids you have to survive flying through an asteroid belt, dodging and shooting rocks that come at you from all directions. When you shoot one it will split into smaller, harder to hit rocks. If that wasn’t hard enough, you are hunted by flying saucers that appear suddenly, without warning. It’s simple yet challenging gameplay inspired a generation of h-gh-score chasers.

Asteroids is one of those foundational video games that was novel in its design and inspired a whole genre of space shooters for decades after. It is one of the most popular, and most frequently played games ever.
