The Lasting Legacy of Yars' Revenge
In 1982 Atari released Yars’ Revenge, a new title for the 2600 by a young, unproven developer named Howard Scott Warshaw. The game was supported by a lavish marketing campaign, including a comic book, LPs, and print and television advertising. What gave Atari the confidence to support the game with such a large budget?
Yars’ Revenge went on to become the best-selling first party game on the Atari 2600. Over the four decades since its release it has been played by millions and spawned 10 additional titles.
