CX78+ Wireless Gamepad

Got a Gold medal in the Activision Decathlon with this bad boy. The controls are extremely responsive, if to a fault. Going in diagonal directions can be sensitive, but as time goes on the stiffness will be more accepting. I’ve ran ten Decathlons at the hardest I could and it’s still working like a charm, albeit the directionals are more loose after that hard of punishment. I’ll take this over my wrists exploding with the old joystick any day. Plus if you unscrew the thumb stick you’ll have sharp control in games like Pressure Cooker.

It's an okay controller. The thumbpad isn't as sensitive and responsive as the original Atari joystick (or other thumbpads for Nintendo systems), but the wireless feature is great. You can sit far away from the monitor and still react to game action. But nothing beats the modern, PS4/5-styled controller from the Atari VCS!

I like that the control pad is wireless and rechargeable allowing freedom of movement instead of movement being limited to the distance of a cord.

Feels like the original 80s controller. Wireless controllers is great update for the 7800.

I am grateful for Atari offering this in a wireless option. Its great to be able to sit back on the couch without all the cables draped across the room!

I don't notice any lag with these, and they pair quickly

While I was always just fine with corded controllers, this one does have a bit more heft to it which I like & being wireless does have its perks. While the d pad can feel slippery sometimes, it does its job as it always has done back in the day, only now wireless!

The wireless works well once paired. The two button play is great for games that require it. The joystick screws into the pad using plastic threads. Not only is it uncomfortable to use but if you push too hard it pops out and strips the bottom making a week old controller useless. There’s no reason why harder plastic or a metal **** tip couldn’t be used.

Does not work for what i needed it. Will tey tobutilize it for somwthing else..or just put aside

What a great idea to make this wireless. this gamepad was not available in the US back in the day when the 7800 was released, and I am so glad it's not out for all regions. The fact that it is wireless makes it so awesome!

While the Atari joystick is fine, this gamepad makes the gameplay and movements much more smooth.

This game pad allows me to comfortably play games all the way across the room so I don't have to deal with distractions from chair discomfort and the responsiveness is completely on track

Perfect for a different feel/grip compared to the2600 standard design.

3.5 stars. I definitely prefer playing with this over the old-school joystick, which now makes my hands hurt as an almost 50-year-old. Lol. I know that the button configuration is to preserve the authenticity of the original design, and I get and respect that. However…. If the buttons were a little bit closer together, it would be so much easier to play games where you needed to get back-and-forth between them quickly or hold one while pressing the other. Perhaps do a refresh “Atari turbo pad” or something that is more ergonomic? I guarantee there’s a market.

I got this for my 7800+, but can also use it for my original 7800. The backwards compatibility adds to the value of owning this controller. The build quality is average and the feel of the buttons was good for the retro games I play with it.

If you always wanted a European 7800 controller instead of the dreaded controllers we got in the states this is for you! Plus it’s wireless and works on PCs and original Atari consoles as well! Great job Atari I’m very happy your still around so I can relive my childhood, except this time I’m grown and have money to buy things 😁

This is THE way to play most 7800 games. It's very responsive and has great battery life. The button placement isn't the best.

these things are horrible. I cant even play some games because they are far too sensitive and you get false two inputs instead of one, so your played gets stuck in an unexpected movement often. Ninja Golf, Bentley bear... totally unplayable. I've tried difficulty switches and all that, nothing helps. There are videos showing how bad the problem is and how well they work (or not). Super disappointed in my 7800+ because of this.

The CX78+ is an outstanding controller. Using either the D pad or thumbstick mode the control is precise, easy to get the hang of, and comfortable in the hand. This is a winner!

I am probably in the minority on the new line of + controllers. But I find them to be a stiff replacement. Thankfully, there's a fellow that brings the cx78+ up to its potential. I added his upgrades and if Atari was to get together with him, these controllers become monster sensations. If Atari wants to know about this seller, I can hope to see the full potential of this controller available to the whole gaming world.

Good wireless controller with exrra dongle for PC use. Close to original specs. Nice.
